System

Cleaner water from every tap and shower.

Chlorine, chloramines, and volatile organic compounds affect the taste and smell of your water throughout the house. A whole-home carbon filter removes them before they reach any fixture.

Whole-home carbon filtration for your home.

Your city treats its municipal water with chlorine and chloramines to kill bacteria. That is necessary for public health, but those same disinfectants affect the taste and smell of your water and can be absorbed through the skin during a shower or bath. A whole-home carbon filter intercepts them at the point where water enters your home, so every faucet, showerhead, and appliance receives already-filtered water.

Activated carbon works through adsorption. As water flows through a dense bed of carbon media, chlorine, chloramines, hydrogen sulfide, and many volatile organic compounds bind to the carbon surface and are removed from the water stream. Our systems use NSF/ANSI 42-certified media sourced through Honest Water Co, and every install is completed by a licensed plumber.

For homeowners in Gretna and Papillion whose water carries a noticeable chlorine taste or smell, carbon filtration is often the single most impactful upgrade. Start with our free water test so we can measure your chlorine levels and recommend the right media type and tank size for your home.

What's included

What you get.

  • Free in-home water test

We test for chlorine, chloramines, TDS, and other parameters before sizing any equipment. Always free, never pressured.

  • NSF/ANSI 42-certified media

All carbon filtration systems use independently certified media, tested and verified for chlorine and chloramine reduction.

  • Correctly sized tank

Tank sizing is matched to your home's peak flow rate so carbon media never becomes a bottleneck for water pressure.

  • Licensed-plumber installation

Installed by a licensed, background-checked plumber. All connections, bypass valves, and backwash drain lines are run to local code.

  • Post-install taste and odor check

After install we confirm chlorine is no longer detectable at the tap before we leave your home.

How we do it

The Pure Water Co way.

  1. Free water test

We test your tap water for chlorine, chloramines, hardness, and TDS so we can recommend the right filtration approach for your source and home.

  2. System selection

We size the carbon tank to your home's peak flow rate and recommend the media type that best addresses what your water test found.

  3. Licensed install

Our licensed plumber installs at the main line entry, sets up the backwash cycle, and confirms flow rate hasn't been affected.

  4. Final water check

We test at the kitchen tap to confirm chlorine and odor are gone, then walk you through the backwash schedule.

FAQ

Whole-home carbon filtration questions.

Activated carbon is effective at reducing chlorine, chloramines, hydrogen sulfide (rotten-egg smell), many volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and some pesticides and herbicides. It does not soften water or remove dissolved minerals. For those, you'd want a softener or RO system.

A correctly sized system should not noticeably affect pressure. We size tanks to your home's peak flow rate so the carbon bed is never a bottleneck.

Most residential carbon media lasts three to five years depending on water quality and usage. At that point the media is replaced, not the entire tank. We'll let you know what to expect for your specific system.

Absolutely. Many homeowners pair them. The [softener-filtration combo](/services/softener-filtration-combo) addresses both mineral hardness and disinfectant taste and smell in one installation.
